On April 9, Firstbank-West Michigan held a drawing to decide their lucky winner of an iPad 2. The entries were gathered during the "My Bank Loves Me" promotion, which spanned from Monday, February 13th until Saturday, March 31st. We are happy to congratulate Dan Bennett on his new iPad!

Freddy Visits Emerson Elementary

On March 1st, Linda Stewart, Assistant Branch Manager in our Main Office, and Fortune Freddy visited the first graders at Emerson Elementary to kick off Reading Month.
Each year, the Ionia County Literacy gives one book and bookmark to each first grader throughout Ionia County and invites community members to read to the classrooms during "March is Reading Month."
The Ionia County Literacy is a non-profit organization and has been active since 1987. Their mission is to increase literacy in Ionia County by recruiting and training volunteer tutors and networking with community and business organizations. The volunteer tutors teach adults how to read or improve their reading skills. They work closely with the office of Michigan Works to ensure that those job seekers who are deficient in reading and/or math acquire the necessary skills to obtain or retain employment, as well as to help inmates improve their reading skills by recording books on tape for their children.
Colleen Lance, Darcie McKendry, Linda Steele, and Dan Mitchell also volunteered at Rather, Jefferson, and Woodland Elementary Schools.

Deb Ballard in Cadillac Chamber News

Our very own Branch Manager of our Cadillac North Office, Deb Ballard, is being featured in the May and June issue of the Cadillac Chamber News, "Women in Business." In the article written, Deb gives advice for how to be an effective business person. Some advice she gives is to find a balance between work and time for yourself, as well as to be sure to take good care of your customers.

April Breakfast Speaker Series

April 27 will be Keystone's next Breakfast Speaker Series event. The topic of this event will be the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail System project, discussed by David Rachowicz and Christopher Tracy.
Rachowicz, director of Kalamazoo County Parks, and Tracy, Kalamazoo River Trail Campaign co-chair and attorney, will discuss the history and present standing of the trail system, as well as what the future will hold.
The event will take place on Friday, April 27th, and is free and open to the public. It begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and will be held in the Dean’s Conference Room of Schneider Hall.
Reservations can be made by calling (269) 387-5050. Parking is available in the nearby Fetzer Center parking lot.

Alma Employees Bowl for Big Brother/Big Sister

Firstbank had several teams participate in the Big Brother/Big Sister Bowl for Kids Sake on Saturday, March 17th. Together, we raised $3,296.33 for the organization. Deb Carman from Alma’s Main Office was honored for raising the most money individually. Firstbank’s team, Rolling in the Dough 3 (Kathleen, Kristina, Kylee and Deb) from Alma’s Main Office and Downtown were also recognized for raising the most money as a team.
The event raised over a total of $10,000! Many thanks to our customers and community for supporting this great event!

Mt.Pleasant Supports Community Library Project

Firstbank is proud to announce their involvement and support of a sculpture which is to be placed at the new Morton Township Library in Mecosta.
Renowned sculpture Robert Barnum, Professor of Fine Arts at Ferris State University is working with the students from Ferris State University's Welding and Engineering Technology department to create this beautiful piece of art which is scheduled to be in place spring of 2012. The sculpture which features 5 figures reading books range from 4 to 13 feet high and will have the engraved words; INSPIRE, IMAGINE, ENRICH, DREAM, COMMUNITY and CREATE."
Dave Miller, VP of Marketing for Firstbank stated "We are excited to be involved in such a great community project as this. Our communities are a very important part of who we are, and this is just one way we can show our commitment to them."
Mt.Pleasant Team Bowling for Charity

Not only did our Firstbank bowling team have a great time out on the lanes, but they helped so many community organizations at the same time when they participated in the Mt. Pleasant Optimist Club's 24th Annual Bowling Event. This event supports organizations throughout Isabella County. Some of those include; Big Brother & Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, Mt. Pleasant Community Foundation, 4-H of Isabella County and many others!
