On December 7th, representatives from our Canadian Lakes, Remus, Lakeview and Howard City branches attended the annual Mecosta County Chamber Gala and Fundraiser. There were over 275 people in attendance to support the activities of the Chamber and all they do for the community.

The power of small town pride! The fans of the Chippewa Hills Warriors came out in support of their school during our School Spirit Challenge. Mo Simon, Joyce Kain, Karen McKenzie and even Fortune Freddy (along with a little help from the cheerleaders) presented Athletic Director Chi Etheridge with a check for $250 at the football game on Friday, October 6th. Congratulations Warriors – and thank you for participating in our School Spirit Challenge!
The staff at our Howard City office participated in a mini Relay for Life event that was held at Tri County High School on September 28th. After the varsity football game, the relay teams walked around the track for 5 hours to help bring awareness to cancer research. The event raised over $26,000! Great job team!!
Each year we reward a deserving graduating senior from Morley Stanwood High School with a $500 college tuition scholarship. This year's recipient was Elyse Starck. Elyse, pictured here with Lakeview Manager, Barb Kain will be attending Aquinas College this fall and will be majoring in biology. Congratulations Elyse and best of luck on your future endeavors from your friends at Firstbank!
On May 17, 2012 the Lakeview High School held its senior award ceremony. Each year Firstbank awards one deserving senior with a $500 college scholarship. this year Zechariah Tanis was presented with that honor by Firstbank Vice President Barb Kain. Zechariah will be attending Central Michigan University in the fall. Congratulation Zechariah and best of luck in the future from your friends at Firstbank!
As part of Firstbank's commitment to our communities, we often have guests come through and learn about the bank and the importance of saving money. Earlier this spring, we had just such a visit from the local Tiger Scout troop who enjoyed a tour of our Firstbank Lakeview office. They were able to learn all about the internal working of the bank and had some fun along the way! Our very own Sue Brockschmidt gave the boys of tour of the bank and some Fortune Freddy goodies to take home and remember their visit. Thanks for stopping by to see us and come back again soon!

Each year the Knights of Columbus hold a National Essay writing contest. This year St. Michael's Church in Remus took part in this great project. Brooke Ray of St. Michaels School in Remus is the local winner of the contest with her entry "What is Patroitism?". For her effort she was awarded $50 and her essay will be forwarded to the National Competition! The Village of Howard City sponsors a snowman decorating contest during their annual Winterfest celebration. This year due to the lack of snow, participants were forced to get creative and use cardboard cut outs and other materials to decorate other favorite winter characters. This is Firstbank’s Petrie the Penguin who took home 2nd place! Way to go Petrie!
Remus Heritage Days was held in Remus on the weekend of July 15 and 16.

The Kelly Miller Circus is coming to Howard City!
August 26th the Kelly Miller Circus will be in town for two exciting shows; 4:30pm and 7:30pm. In preperation for the big event Carlie and Charlie the Clowns are going to be visiting Firstbank on August 11th from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Bring your children into our branch for free photographs with two fun-loving clowns! Also enjoy some fresh popped popcorn while you visit.
